MEET THE VOICE OF ANTHEM OF THE SEAS

A GODMOTHER LIKE NO OTHER

MEET THE VOICE OF ANTHEM OF THE SEAS A GODMOTHER LIKE NO OTHER

Anthem of the Seas launched in Southampton on 20 April with a spectacular naming ceremony featuring Godmother Emma Wilby, who performed alongside Welsh choir Only Boys Aloud. Emma then officially named the ship, christening it with the traditional bottle of champagne, which was sent on its way along a high-flying Zip Line on the top deck of the ship.

Over the inaugural weekend, Emma was treated to a taste of all the amazing features that Anthem of the Seas has to offer – including RipCord by iFLY®, FlowRider®, North Star and Bionic Bar. She also had the opportunity to sample some of the delicious food on offer, and take in some of the groundbreaking entertainment, including the multisensory kaleidoscope of Spectra’s Cabaret.

Find out how Emma feels about being Godmother to one of the world’s most incredible ships, and take a look at what she got up to during this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

WHAT IS A GODMOTHER?

The role of ship’s Godmother is appointed to an individual for a lifetime. They are the figurehead of the ship, bestowing good luck and divine protection over not only the ship itself, but all who sail onboard. Royal Caribbean have a long list of esteemed Godmothers, which includes Gloria Estefan, Jane Seymour, Whoopi Goldberg, Steffi Graf and Kristen Chenowith, to name but a few.

THE SEARCH FOR A GODMOTHER

THE SEARCH FOR A GODMOTHER

To find a Godmother for Anthem of the Seas℠ who could hit the high notes, we asked travel agents to send us videos of themselves singing. From all the entries we received, we selected six sensational finalists.

After a live audition and interview with our judging panel – which included Royal Caribbean’s Managing Director for UK and Ireland, Stuart Leven and Travel Weekly Editor-in-Chief, Lucy Huxley – the winner was decided. With such a talented group, the decision wasn’t easy, but it was Emma who wowed the panel with her warm personality and incredible vocal talents.

‘Emma is not only a great singer but also shows she appreciates the role of an ambassador for the Royal brand and the honour to be chosen as Anthem’s Godmother’ said Lucy Huxley, and the Royal team agreed
