How to throw a great NYE party

By BijalTuesday 22nd December 2015

It’s almost time to celebrate New Year’s Eve and we can’t wait! It’s almost time to celebrate New Year’s Eve and we can’t wait!

New Year’s Eve is fast approaching and at Royal Caribbean it’s one of our favourite holidays. It’s a time to celebrate the year that’s past and to welcome in the New Year with a bang, as the festive feeling of Christmas lingers in the air. 2015 has been a fantastic year for us and 2016 is set to be extraordinary, what with the launch of Harmony of the Seas and everything else we’ve got planned. We’ll certainly be celebrating on December 31st!

If you’re planning your own New Year’s Eve celebration, make sure people remember it all year round with our top tips on how to throw a great NYE party.

1. Pick a fabulous theme

Any good party, New Year’s Eve or otherwise, has to have a fabulous theme. Whether it’s fancy dress or black tie, a good theme will get your guests excited. It’s also a great way of picking a dress code. The theme can feed into the decorations, food and entertainment that you pick, which is a great way of creating a magical atmosphere.

2. Make a guest list

Nobody likes being forgotten from a guest list, so sit down and plan exactly who you want (and need) to invite before you organise anything else. Be realistic about the size of your space, especially if you’re holding your party at home – the last thing you want is too many people, or not enough! It’s also worth considering any children that your guests may want to bring along.

3. Organise food and drinks

Food and drinks are an important part of your New Year’s Eve celebration, and they shouldn’t be left until the last minute. If you have a special theme, you can match your food and drinks to it. Champagne and dainty hors d'oeuvres are perfect for a black tie theme, while mini burgers and beers served in red cups are great for an all-American theme. Whatever you decide to serve, make sure there’s enough for the whole night.

4. Plan the entertainment

If you’re throwing a New Year’s Eve party, you have to provide your guests with some entertainment, no matter how low key it is. The first step is picking the right music. Think about the kind of atmosphere you want to create, as well as the people you’ve invited, and pick the music accordingly. Next, are the games – if you choose to have any. They’re a great icebreaker.

5. Let the decorating begin

When your guests arrive, you want them to be impressed, so make sure you go all out on decorations. Of course, it depends what kind of theme you’ve chosen, but there are a few things that are a must. Mood lighting (fairy lights are perfect for this), table cloths or covers (you don’t want stains on your furniture) and wall decorations (to match your theme). You want to transform the space!
