Teen Activities on a Family Cruise Holiday

By AdeleFriday 16th August 2013

teen cruise

You’ve booked a family cruise and are looking forward to exploring cultures, relaxing and having some time with your loved ones. But, do you share any of these concerns….

“My kids are older and want to have some time on their own. How can I make sure there’s plenty for them to do?” “How can I give them the freedom to explore all the activities onboard?” One of the main reasons a cruise holiday is great for families is that there are so many entertainment options onboard for teens, as well as younger kids. This means less worry for you about whether they will become bored while you’re lounging by the pool, relaxing in the spa or browsing in the shops. To help you out, we’ve put together this roundup of onboard activities for your teens.

Be social

There are plenty of places for teens to hang out and socialise onboard, with the freedom to come and go as they please. The teen centres on our ships (the areas which are off-limits to parents) are overseen by qualified Royal Caribbean staff, who are experienced in working with kids of all ages. These centres are open from 10.30am until 2am daily, giving your teen the chance to meet other cruisers. Fuel, the onboard nightclub for teens only, is a great place to socialise and relax, without anyone feeling as though they’re under a watchful eye. It also means teens can have some fun while parents are having a relaxing evening or some alone time.

Be active

Teen entertainment on a family cruiseTeen activities are scheduled throughout the day and evening. Our Adventure Ocean® Youth Programme provides activities for specific age groups, so kids will have plenty in common with others in the group. They could find themselves watching a movie by the poolside or finding their inner star-status during a karaoke session. If they’re into gaming then many of our ships have an onboard arcade, full of video games to challenge themselves or play a friendly match with their new mates.

Be sporty

Teens can build up great camaraderie with other cruisers by joining the sports clubs and groups. If they prefer an individual challenge, they can try navigating the waves of FlowRider®. Check your height first. You’ll need to be at least 52"/132cm tall to use the bodyboard and 58"/147cm tall to use the flowboard. Teens with a head for heights can scale the rock climbing wall (unaccompanied if they’re over the age of 13) and see the stunning views.

Be relaxed

Though it may be a family cruise, it’s your teen’s holiday too and their time to relax. If your teen is 18 years or older then they use the spa facilities for a relaxing pampering session. This is a treat you can enjoy together, giving you a chance to chat and find time together that you don’t seem to have at home.

What’s your teen’s favourite activity onboard? What sort of activities would they like to find on our ships?
