Mumsnet Q&A

By AdeleTuesday 26th May 2015

Your holiday with Anthem of the Seas will take just 15 minutes to embark, and then you’re on your way. Your holiday with Anthem of the Seas will take just 15 minutes to embark, and then you’re on your way.

Mumsnet, the voice of parental blogging, visited us onboard Anthem of the Seas to have a chat about family holidays with Royal Caribbean. Mumsnet brings together a range of great parental blogs into one shared space, and so we were really keen to talk to them about our onboard schemes, how we do our best to cater for families of all ages, and how we’re always working to improve holidays for our cruisers.

There are lots of activities to do with the kids. There are lots of activities to do with the kids.

Mumsnet: What is the loyalty scheme?

RC: We’ve got the Crown & Anchor Society, which rewards our most loyal guests by giving them exclusive benefits, which are sure to make their cruise holiday even more memorable. You can join after just one sailing, and you’ll get things like onboard discounts and exclusive events. For example, we had a Crown & Anchor party onboard Anthem of the Seas just last night! On the other side of the coin we’ve got Club Royal. This is a brilliant opportunity for those who qualify to be a Royal Caribbean Cruising For Excellence Captain, and is an industry first. Each time you make a booking, we’ll give you real money back. There are even special benefits, such as money-can’t-buy events, so it’s a really exciting opportunity! The H2O Zone is a great outdoor place, where kids can play safely. The H2O Zone is a great outdoor place, where kids can play safely.

Mumsnet: How do the loyalty customers feel about sharing their cruise with children?

RC: The ships are built towards families. Crown & Anchor members who have cruises together have grown with the company over time, and many of our guests enjoy being a part of a family-orientated members club. The ship is also organised by activities, so that we can guide differing age groups towards the areas that are most suitable for them. This means that we can guide kids towards things like the SeaPlex, where they can ride the dodgems, whereas the adults may be more interested in our Vitality Spa and gym. Kids can try new activities for the first time, like rock climbing. Kids can try new activities for the first time, like rock climbing.

Mumsnet: Do you organise the rooms in this way?

RC: No, but we do have a selection of rooms which are configurable, so they can be transformed from a one bed room to a family suite. This means that you’ll always have space for a cot, if needed, and the kids will have more room to make a mess! Parents often comment on the usefulness of having the rooms divided, so that they can kiss the kids goodnight, and then unwind in peace. Rooms can be adjusted, to create space for bigger families if needed. Rooms can be adjusted, to create space for bigger families if needed.

Mumsnet: It’s great that you want to promote to families. What is your offering for pre-schoolers?

RC: You have to identify a sweet spot. Ours is family. The nursery is appropriate for every pre-schooler age, it’s full of toys and fun things for them to do. If you’re accompanying them, our Royal Babies & Tots club keeps the little ones entertained with interactive playgroup sessions, where they’ll listen and play to music as well as other fun activities. Our nursery offers daytime and evening drop-off options, and your babies will be cared for by trained professionals at all times whilst enjoying specially designed programmes. If you need last-minute baby supplies, we’ve got a great Babies 2 Go service which sells nappies, ready-to-go nappy bags, and you can even have organic baby food delivered to your room upon arrival, so it’s incredibly convenient. Our ships are like one huge playground, so your kids have tonnes to do! Our ships are like one huge playground, so your kids have tonnes to do!

Mumsnet: It’s great that the kids club stays open so late, but are there any other options for kids?

RC: We also offer in-room babysitting for children over 12 months, so your child can rest in bed and you’ll know that there’s a trained minder there to look after them, whilst you’re enjoying some alone time. We’ve got a fantastic kids’ club that is geared towards children of all ages, and involves them in activities that are age-appropriate. Kids aged three to five can pop by our Aquanauts club, where they’ll play with bubbling potions and imagine themselves as pirates onboard a ship. Those aged 6-8 years are our Explorers, and they get more fun and challenging activities, like hands-on science, which will help their minds to develop whilst playing. Teens have their share of activities too; we make sure every age is looked after. Enjoy the sunny weather with the whole family. Enjoy the sunny weather with the whole family.

Mumsnet: Can we also just say that the check-in process was great. Is that always the case?

RC: This is another thing that we do our best to keep consistently smooth. There’s a 15 minute embarkation, from check-in, to getting to your room, so you can start your holiday as soon as possible! We know that the process of departing on a holiday can be a little bit boring, especially for kids, so we’re always determined to making this time as short and as seamless an experience as possible.

Are you inspired to take your next family holiday with us? We’ve got a whole host of destinations for you to choose from.
