How to Beat the January Blues

How to Beat the January Blues

New Year celebrations always kick off with a bang, but then you’re left with the task of removing the Christmas tree and heading back to daily grind of work. It’s probably no surprise that the 20th January is officially January Blues day; so what can you do to avoid the post-festivity slump? Here at Royal Caribbean we think we have the answer. Here are some of our ideas to keep your spirits high as you begin the New Year.

Plan a holiday

Planning some time away is a great way to distract you from the January Blues. Holidays give you the chance to try out new destinations, relax but then also try out new and exciting experiences – the perfect remedy to the January Blues.
The island of Labadee in Haiti, in the Caribbean , is both a fun and relaxing destination for parents and kids. If you fancy spending the day on the beach then you’ll be spoilt for choice, as this private Royal Caribbean island is surrounded by crystal clear sea and golden sand, waiting for you to sunbathe away the days on shore. If relaxing isn’t your thing then your whole family can join with the fun at Labadee’s Aquapark and then finish the day by zip lining above the sea.
Fancy trying getting as far away from the hustle and bustle of the West as you can? Then you should probably take a trip to South East Asia. Meander along the market lined streets of Vietnam, eat delicious fresh sushi from the street stalls in Japan, and explore the beautiful temples of Thailand – a world away from dreary January Blues.

Get fit

A good way of keeping the January Blues at bay is getting fit by taking up a new hobby or sport. A great chance to get a taste for a whole range of sports and activities is during your time onboard a cruise. From playing table tennis with your kids to swimming solo in the Solarium, you’re sure to find something which suits you and your family.
One of my favourite things to do onboard is tackling the climbing wall; it’s so much fun and gets your adrenaline pumping too. If you’re not too keen on heights though I’d definitely recommend trying out our FlowRider, a thrilling surfing simulator. Whether you and your kids are surfing champs or not, the warm sea breeze, fast speeds and gushing water are sure to keep everyone in the family entertained.

Go to a show

Going out with friends and family for some great entertainment is one of the best ways to wave goodbye to the January blues.  Whether you’re a fan of comedy, theatre or a musical there are so many different options available onboard a cruise that you won’t have the chance to feel bored.
At our theatre you can choose to watch performances of West End classics such as Chicago, Hairspray and Mamma Mia -I love singing along to the Abba hits! You’ll also have the opportunity to watch impressive ice skating shows and acrobatic routines which will take your breath away.
If your kids fancy something different then you can all go and watch some fantastic cinematic performances in our 3D cinema. Your kids will get to see their favourite film characters come to life on the big screen – so get your 3D glasses at the ready!
