Family Cruises Q&A - Dining & Rooms

By AdeleThursday 29th August 2013

family cruises

I’m sure you want your family holiday to be as relaxing and fun as possible. It should be as much a holiday for you as it is for your loved ones. There’s plenty to consider – will the destination be child-friendly? Will there be enough to keep the little ones entertained? What will the journey be like?

On our Royal Caribbean family cruises you can put these worries behind you because you’ll explore several destinations without the hassle of packing and unpacking as you move from place to place. Plus, you have the freedom to enjoy our onboard facilities as you travel from A to B, while your kids stay safe on the ship.
As for entertainment? The kids clubs, family-friendly excursions and onboard family dining options mean your concerns will be squashed. But, before you choose your perfect family cruise, let us answer some of your crucial questions about dining and accommodation.

What are the onboard family dining options?

My Family Time Dining in the Main Dining Room

Mealtimes are a good opportunity to gather the whole family together and share stories from your day. But, let’s face it, kids don’t usually enjoy sitting still for too long. Which is where our My Family Time Dining programme comes in. Kids will enjoy a quick dinner service so they can continue with fun onboard activities while you take things more leisurely and chat over dessert and wine. Your kids will be done with dinner in 45 minutes and if you arrive for the first-seating in the main dining room then kids registered in our free Adventure Ocean Youth Programme and My Family Time Dining will be met by our Adventure Ocean counsellors at the main dining room entrance at 6.45pm. They’ll then be shown to our kid’s clubs for an evening packed with activities and the chance to make friends with guests their age.

Specialty Dining on Family Cruises

Want to treat the family to something a little bit special? Try a 4 course meal at Chops Grille or Portofino. Book yourselves in for a tasty steak dinner at Chops Grille or fantastic seafood at Portofino. Kids under 13 are allowed in before 7pm and all guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

A Casual Family Dinner

If you’re looking for tasty options for a relaxed family meal then there’s a long list of onboard restaurant menus to munch your way through. This could be a laid back dinner in the Windjammer Cafe, Italian pizza for everyone at Sorrento's or a Mexican feast at Rita’s Cantina. Meanwhile, trendy American diner, Johnny Rockets serves up tasty burger and fries in a fun family environment. Sit together in one of the 50s style booths and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and dancing staff, for a dining experience to remember.

Are the rooms spacious enough for the whole family? And, can we all stay together?

Your whole family can stay together on a Royal Caribbean cruise holiday. We have a range of accommodation for 4 to 16 people and our staterooms are the perfect place to relax and get a good night’s sleep. Anyone under 21 years of age must be assigned to a stateroom with someone 21 years or older. But, this age limit doesn’t apply for kids travelling with parents or guardians in connecting staterooms (including next door rooms or rooms directly opposite). Choosing this option means your kids will have their own space and you can keep them close while enjoying some privacy of your own. Explore our family room options.
