City Breaker or Beach Bum - Which One Are You?

By JoTuesday 17th December 2013

Colosseum Rome

Do you love the hustle and bustle of a busy city, or do you prefer the peace and tranquility of sunbathing on a golden beach? Great food, architecture and culture make a city destination a great holiday for those who love to explore, whereas luxurious beaches and a glimmering sea make a beach break perfect for those who want to relax. Whichever type of holiday you choose, Royal Caribbean is here to help.

City Breaker

Many of our cruises travel to popular city destinations, which are great for those of you who want a city break with a difference.  Our Mediterranean cruises dock at a selection of fascinating cities, one of them being Barcelona. Explore Sagrada Familia Basilica and the many other Gaudi buildings across the Spanish city, or feast on delicious tapas and fresh seafood paella in the local restaurants. Take a trip to the largest stadium in Europe, Camp Nou. There you can walk around the impressive arena or even cheer on a game of football! Barcelona isn’t just about great architecture and culture; it’s also got a playful side. For a fun day, take your kids to the Tibidabo Amusement Park where they can zoom down giant water rides and brave exciting rollercoasters.
Another Mediterranean destination is Rome, and with such a renowned history, it’s hard to know where to start – there’s so much to see! Bring out your inner gladiator by exploring the Colosseum, or head to the Pantheon where you can admire one of the greatest examples of ancient Roman architecture.
If you’re cruising to Northern Europe then make sure you stop at Copenhagen, a delightful city of art, history and great food. The Round Tower is the perfect start to your holiday; there you can take in 360° views of Copenhagen from the centre of the city, admiring the colourful buildings which line the harbour.. Copenhagen’s Open Air Museum is great fun for the kids; with over 86 acres of historical land to explore they can get to grips with what life would’ve been like in the past – the perfect way for your kids to interact with history!

Beach Bum

Forget about the day to day stresses and unwind on one of the many picturesque beaches Royal Caribbean stops at. Ajaccio is a beautiful commune on the French island of Corsica, where the scenic beaches are often compared to those in the Caribbean. Crystal clear sea, golden shores and the warming heat of the sun makes Ajaccio one of the best beach locations to visit on a Mediterranean cruise. After spending a day lounging on the beach, or snorkelling with your kids, take a relaxing hike with your family across the mountainous terrain of Corsica, explore Ajaccio’s fascinating markets or even try your hand at wine tasting.
If your cruise sails to the Greek island of Santorini, the first thing you’ll notice is the wonderfully white buildings which cover the island’s mountainous landscape. Warmed by the Greek sun, Perivolos beach is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Surrounded by bars and restaurants, Perivolos is also a great place for you and your family to enjoy lunch by the beach. Steeped in history, Santorini is fun to explore; meander along hilly streets in the island’s small villages, or explore the local museums for a lesson on the island’s past.

Beach Bum

 They both sound great!

We think so too, and if you can’t quite make your mind up then take a look here for more information on Royal Caribbean’s destinations.
