Family is very important to us at Royal Caribbean, which is why we’ve made sure that all of our ships are perfect for a family holiday. Whether your kids are 6 months old, 16 years old, or anything in between, the whole family is sure to have a fantastic time onboard. If you’re planning a cruise with the newest member of your family, read on for our top tips to your baby’s first cruise.

Make sure they’re old enough

For your little one to accompany you onboard a Royal Caribbean cruise, they have to be at least six months old on the day that you set sail, and for cruises that spend three consecutive days (or more) at sea, your baby has to be at least 12 months old. Cruises that spend three or more days at sea include transatlantic, transpacific, certain South American cruises, cruise tours and other selected cruises. So, before you start booking, take a look at our destinations and make sure the cruise you choose is suitable for your baby. Book a balcony stateroom and you can catch some rays while your little one naps inside. Book a balcony stateroom and you can catch some rays while your little one naps inside.

Book well in advance

When you have a baby, as any parent knows, preparation is very important. Especially when you’re heading off on holiday. By booking your cruise well in advance of your departure date, you’ll get the first pick of options that will make your holiday go more smoothly. For example, you can guarantee your spot at the earlier dining time, which can be really important when it comes to maintaining your baby’s routine. Booking early also means you’ll have less to do in the lead up to your trip.

Consider booking a balcony room

If there’s one thing that babies can’t get enough of (apart from milk, of course!) it’s sleep. Even though you’re on holiday, your baby will still need their naptime, which probably requires a bit of peace and quiet. Avoid being stuck inside while your baby naps, by booking a balcony room. This way, while your little one is getting some well-needed rest, you can relax and soak up some rays. Baby will get their precious naptime and you won’t feel like you’re missing out. Use Babies On The Go

Although it’s a good idea to bring plenty of baby supplies onboard, you can also take advantage of our helpful Babies On The Go service. Using this service you can pre-order Huggies® nappies, nappy bags and baby wipes, as well as Gerber® organic baby food. The items will be delivered directly to your stateroom upon your arrival, so you have one less thing to worry about when packing for your trip. Your bags will be lighter, too!

Order a highchair and changing mat

Highchairs and changing mats are available from the Royal Babies and Tots Nursery and must be ordered when you make your booking. We’ll deliver these directly to your room, ready for you and your baby when you arrive. The amazing Royal Babies and Tots Nursery onboard Quantum of the Seas. Join the Royal Babies or Royal Tots playgroups

Here at Royal Caribbean we want to make sure that everyone onboard our ships has the best time, even our youngest cruisers. That’s why we’ve created the Royal Babies and Tots Nursery, a special environment for your little ones to play and learn. Come along to our Royal Babies (6-18th months) or Royal Tots (18-36 months) playgroup sessions, which have been developed by experts from Fisher-Price, and help your baby explore through music, toys and other learning activities.

Use the Royal Babies and Tots Nursery or book a babysitter

If you fancy a little time to yourself while onboard, you can leave your child (6-36 months) in the very capable hands of our nursery staff members. While you relax, your baby will be having fun in our colourful nursery with other babies and tots. Alternatively, for babies over 12 months, you can book an in-room babysitter.   You could even take your baby to one of our onboard shows – they’ll love the music and dancing.
