Staking their Independence

By JoTuesday 18th August 2015

Take a trip on Independence of the Seas and see your little ones start staking their independence. Take a trip on Independence of the Seas and see your little ones start staking their independence.

The legendary Independence of the Seas will return to British shores later this year, with sailings from Southampton to destinations in Europe and the Med starting in October. To celebrate, we held a special competition on Mumsnet, asking mums and dads to send us stories of their little ones staking their independence for the chance to win a family holiday onboard this magnificent ship.

Here are a few of our favourite stories, as well as some of the onboard activities that will give your kids the chance to stake their independence.

Kids of all ages can join our Adventure Ocean® Kid’s Clubs. Kids of all ages can join our Adventure Ocean® Kid’s Clubs.

Aventure Ocean® Kid’s Club

Our award-winning Adventure Ocean® Kid’s Club is open to children from the age of six months to 17 years, and is a fantastic way for kids to make new friends while having a great time. Each day is jam-packed with fun and educational activities, carefully chosen for each age group.

“My son has always been independent. He hated being in his buggy or even holding my hand and walked ahead of me independently from two years old. As soon as he was in year five, he insisted on catching the bus home from school and walking home from the bus stop, which was the other side of town, by himself. I had to take a deep breath and let him, as kids need to learn to be more independent in this day and age.” - wasfield

Ice Skating Rink

Take your children to the onboard ice skating rink and help them find their feet. They’ll have a great time skating around and trying out tricks, and you’ll have a fun time, too.

“Surely the dressing counts. You know, the carefully put together outfits that only a toddler would wear. [My daughter] turned up to a school meeting for her sister, other parents and the head the other day wearing a Minnie mouse big flouncy dress and wellies. She rocked the look and was most insistent on wearing it. She got noticed!” - purplepandas

H2O Zone

Kids will love the H2O Zone, our onboard mini water park complete with water cannons, fountains and more. Perfect for hot days, kids can splash about and have lots of fun as you look on from the side-lines.

“When [my daughter] put her shoes on by herself. It used to take her half an hour, but she had to do it ‘ALL by myself!!’” – Lullabellx1

Mini Golf

Take your kids for a round (or two!) of mini golf while onboard Independence of the Seas, and you’re sure to have a day to remember. Our nine hole mini golf course is great for kids and adults alike, so you can get the whole family involved.

“My seven year old came upstairs with an omelette he'd cooked for me on Mother's Day while [my partner] and I were asleep.” - Noeuf

FlowRider

FlowRider is our onboard surf simulator, which is suitable kids and adults of all skill levels. Kids can surf or body board, or even have a lesson with one of our trained staff members. Surf’s up!
