When our Royal Families Met Quantum of the Seas

By AdeleWednesday 07th January 2015

At the end of October last year, we welcomed the incredible Quantum of the Seas to the docks of Southampton, where our three Royal Families, the Walkers, Farmers and Bhattis, had the opportunity to explore the innovative technology, food and activities available onboard.

To continue our celebration of Quantum class, we caught up with our Royal Families to see how they found the whole experience. Here, they tell us all about what they got up to, which of the amazing restaurants they dined at, and what they thought about our state of the art technology.

Was Quantum of the Seas different to what you expected?

royal family bionic bar Walkers: “Yes, because the whole layout was different compared to the other ships. Something new at every turn – we can’t believe how much you crammed in, whilst still giving it a spacious, luxurious feel.” Bhattis: “Quantum was beautiful. Before we left, the children had been on YouTube and Royal Caribbean’s site and had all the info, but the art work, glass floor and 270° lounge blew us away.” Farmers: “Quantum was every inch the technological marvel it was billed as. From on-shore hand-held tablet check in, to full-size touch screens to show you the way to your room. And, with a Bionic Bar and state-of-the art wristbands to use as purchase power (and keys), the future had just arrived!”

Which of the Quantum class restaurants and dishes hit the spot for you?

141101_268 Farmers: “The themed restaurant Wonderland was a feast for the senses, not just for your taste buds. However, our favourite was the Japanese restaurant, Izumi, which had amazing seafood!” Bhattis: “The fabulous drinkable desserts at the American Icon Grill – very special indeed.” Walkers: “The Grande and Chic. The steak in the Grande was amazing. Steve also tried sushi for the first time ever and loved it! There’s so much choice, you could eat somewhere different every night of your holiday.”

How did the Starwater show in Two70° compare to your expectations?

royal-families-met-quantum-seas-640x427 Walkers: “It exceeded our expectations! There is a more relaxed feel about the venue, and you feel part of the show as the dancers and musicians seem to be all around you. Although we already knew about the Robot Screens, seeing them move for real was out of this world!!” Farmers: “Starwater, in the amazing Two70°, cleverly wove computerised window panels, the Robot Screens, aerial displays, dancers and singers into a truly breathtaking syncopation of sound, vision and movement. We were transfixed.”

Quantum of the Seas is all about technology and innovation; which technological feature impressed you the most, and why?

141031_157 Walkers: “The WOW bands, as they made everything a lot easier to do. Also, the Bionic Bar was mesmerising! Ordering drinks became a totally unique experience.” The Bhatti family agreed with the Walkers, adding: “The WOW bands were fab for the children – no more lost Sea Passes! The booking of the restaurants was easy too, and the show’s features were great.”

Did you get the chance to try out RipCord or the North Star?

141101_836 Bhattis: “RipCord was a cool experience; the feeling of flying was amazing. Although, your face does feel like you have had a workout! North Star was cool too, to see the sea from the highest point was amazing, Raafi loved it.” Farmers: “RipCord exceeded any anticipation by miles. The talk through was exciting, the guidance necessary but easy, and the thrill of flying just amazing! ‘Take your breath away’ just got a new meaning!” The Walker family couldn’t get enough of RipCord either, and added that it was “amazing, the staff were enthusiastic and fun, and the whole experience was very entertaining!”

Did you and your family have fun in SeaPlex?

141101_1107 Walkers: “The SeaPlex was great fun. The spacious layout, the lighting, the music, the Doghouse, all of it was a teenager’s dream venue! The bumper cars were so much fun, great to do along with all of your family and friends.” Bhattis: “The children spent a lot of time in the SeaPlex. We took advantage of the circus skills, bumper cars, roller skates, Xbox area, and the table tennis – it’s a great space for the whole family.”

Finally, to get our future cruisers excited, describe Quantum of the Seas in three words.

Bhattis: “Hybrid, Innovative and Beautiful.” Walkers: “Innovative, Exciting and Unique.” Farmers: “A breakthrough, a marvel, a high-octane thrill ride!”
