How can you make purchases onboard Royal Caribbean ships?

By JoTuesday 13th June 2017

When you step onboard your Royal Caribbean ship, it’s not just a gateway to the seas you’re joining. You can also treat yourself onboard to extra treats; from luxury spa treatments to speciality dining.

How to Spend Money Onboard Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean ships are all cashless, meaning that you can’t use your credit card or cash to make your purchases. Instead, we will give you a SeaPass card, which is charged against your Onboard Expenses Account. You can set up your account with a credit card, or as a cash account if you prefer. If it works for you, your account can be a master account, with guests from either your stateroom, or another, added as authorised purchasers. You can keep track of your purchases onboard though, as you’ll receive a receipt every time you buy something. On the last morning of your cruise, you’ll receive a statement of your purchases, if it is correct, it’ll be charged to your credit card account (if you’ve used a credit card). If you’ve used a cash account, you will pay in cash before you disembark- the ship will provide details.

What is a SeaPass Card?

When you embark on your Royal Caribbean adventure, you will need to open an Onboard Expenses Account. This is funded by your credit card, but you can use cash if you prefer. If there is an offer for credit to spend onboard (remember to keep an eye out in cruise deals), this will be automatically added to your SeaPass card. You’ll then be given your SeaPass card, to use to make purchases, and much more. Be careful you don’t lose your SeaPass card, as it gets you into your room, checks you back into the ship after you’ve been exploring, and allows you access to your onboard photos. However, if you do lose your SeaPass card, a new one will be reissued onboard. If you lose your pass while out at port, you may need to show some photo ID to get back onto the ship. But don’t worry, we won’t leave you behind.

What Can I Purchase With My SeaPass Card?

When you sail with us at Royal Caribbean, you’re entering a world of amazing adventures. Our ships are already filled with activities, dining experiences and entertainment that are included in the price. But, if you really fancy treating yourself, there are lots of exciting extra options you can purchase with your SeaPass Card. You can use your SeaPass to buy souvenirs from our wide range of luxury stores, treat yourself to breakfast from room service, and order delicious cocktails and other drinks. There is so much more available to you on our ships.

Speciality Dining

For a memorable night out, visit one of our speciality restaurants. Each inspired by a different cuisine, you’re guaranteed an amazing night. As these are speciality, they will be charged to your Sea Pass Account.

It’s your holiday, so treat yourself! Take some time to relax at the spa, and treat yourself to our heavenly treatments, which can be charged to your Sea Pass Account.

Shore Excursion

When you leave the ship, make your experience at the destination one to remember. You can charge your shore excursions to your Sea Pass, so whether you want snorkelling, exploring or jet skiing, you can be guaranteed the time of your life!

SeaPass and Children

As your SeaPass opens your room and checks you back in onboard, everyone needs one - including the kids! Don’t worry, however, about them running up huge costs, as you can set a limit to how much they spend or block all charging completely. So, no surprises when you disembark!

Why Are All Royal Caribbean Purchases in Dollars?

Simply because, Royal Caribbean is an American company. When you make the purchases, they will be automatically exchanged to your currency.

Pre-Book extra options via cruise planner

Book one of our speciality restaurants, spa treatments, drinks packages. or shore excursions online before you cruise via the Cruise Planner. This is available from 180 to 4 days before you set sail. You can now also use your promotional onboard spend before you sail. If you miss the cut off time, there’s no need to worry! You can book when you’re onboard, but to avoid disappointment, do try to book as early as possible.
