Harmony of the Seas: Live Sports Infographic

By DavidFriday 13th November 2015

1,700 pieces of sporting equipment were used to make the live infographic. 1,700 pieces of sporting equipment were used to make the live infographic.

Welcome to Boscombe Beach in Dorset. In summer it’s full of children building sandcastles, and in winter, families brave the chilly weather for a seaside wander. It’s your typical British beach. Or so you would think… Last month, Boscombe Beach became the setting for a stunt of gargantuan proportions, a stunt fit for Royalty.

What was it?

As you may already know, in May 2016 we’ll be launching our biggest ship yet: Harmony of the Seas®. This epic vessel will claim the title of world’s largest cruise ship, and will be decked out with the latest, greatest and most exciting features. Including a whole range of wow-worthy sporting activities; more than we’ve had on any of our ships. So, as we sit on the edge of our seats, eagerly awaiting the ship’s completion, we wanted to show our guests what goes into making these sporting activities come to life. Harmony of the Seas® will have more sports equipment than any of our other ships. Harmony of the Seas® will have more sports equipment than any of our other ships.

Introducing…

The Ultimate Sports Inventory

Royal Caribbean’s first live infographic

How was it made?

A stellar team of 20 spent seven hours counting out and carefully arranging:
  • 900 Ball pit balls
  • 80 Pin pong balls
  • 144 Badminton shuttlecocks
  • 31 Surfboards
  • 16 Ice hockey sticks
  • 30 Basketballs
  • 16 Pool cues
  • 8 Table tennis tables
  • 192 Golf balls
  • 144 Pool balls
A team of 20 people spent all day arranging the equipment on Boscombe Beach. A team of 20 people spent all day arranging the equipment on Boscombe Beach. The total came to a HUGE 1,700 pieces of sports equipment, covering 85 metres of sandy beach. And that’s only half the amount of equipment which will be onboard the ship. The infographic was shot from a bird’s-eye-view using a special drone, which could fly high above the beach and capture amazing images and video footage. Ready to play ball?

Harmony of the Seas® will launch in May 2016 with two short getaway sailings, departing from Southampton, ahead of her inaugural sailing to the Mediterranean where she will sail throughout summer. Guests will be spoilt for choice with over 30 different sports and games activities onboard, including the Ultimate Abyss – the first-ever 10-story water slide!
