Getting Fit and Healthy in the New Year

By HannahFriday 03rd January 2014

The Christmas season is a great time to enjoy your favourite food and drink, but what about afterwards? The beginning of a new year is the perfect opportunity to get fit and healthy after a little festive indulgence. Royal Caribbean ships have gyms, swimming pools and many other activities to keep you fit, including deliciously healthy meals to help you along the way! Read on to find out how you can get fit and healthy in the New Year.

Getting fit

A gym is a great place to start when looking to get fit in the New Year, full with impressive equipment you can use to burn off those calories and other people who will inspire you to keep going. Our onboard gym is complimentary, and has state of the art equipment - plus yoga and spinning classes which will get you fit and healthy in no time!
On shore, gyms can be expensive so a great low-cost alternative is to start jogging. Run around your local park while the kids play on the swings, or run along your local streets and try to beat your personal best.
If jogging and the gym sound a little too much like hard work for you, then why not start swimming? Swimming is a great workout and is gentler on your joints than when you pound the pavements during a run. On a Royal Caribbean holiday, you can swim a couple of laps or race in the pool of our adult-only Solarium while your kids splash about in the H20 Zone – so everyone is happy! We’ve also got a sports court onboard where you can your kids can have a game of basketball, or team up with other families for a game of football.
Don’t worry if none of these tickle your fancy, from rock climbing to dance lessons you’ll have plenty of options to choose from – not to mention the list of things to do in our fabulous destinations!

Eating healthy

Eating healthy doesn’t mean just lettuce leaves and controlled portion sizes, healthy eating can be delicious and fun too. There are so many innovative restaurants onboard, and many of them offer delicious and healthy alternatives of the meals you love.
Just outside the gym you’ll find Vitality Café, a great place for a post-workout lunch or nutritious snack. Take your pick from a variety of tasty speciality wraps, fresh fruit and yoghurts or if you’re in rush then grab one of our smoothies, which is full of great flavours and the right ingredients for when you’ve been working up a sweat in the gym.
If you’ve just been for a swim in the Solarium, then check-out the Solarium Bistro Buffet. With an extensive menu you’ll be spoilt for choice from the long list of hearty and healthy breakfasts and lunches. They also offer great tasting soups, crepes and even have a large salad bar full of fresh vegetables and nibbles for you to enjoy– yummy!
