Behind the Scenes of Grease with: Kristian Mors

By DavidTuesday 01st November 2016

Kristian Mors is 'Featured Singer' for Royal Caribbean Kristian Mors is Royal Caribbean's 'Featured Singer'

Kristian is a 23-year-old Performer from South Wales. Graduating from the prestigious Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, London, his credits include the title role of Dick Whittington for Qdos, the World Premiere of 'Duncton Wood' at the Union Theatre, London and 'A Night at the Musicals' Wales Millennium Centre. Kristian is also a member of the UK's Number-one tribute to Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, The Other Guys. We caught up with him to find out how onboard rehearsals for ‘Grease’ are going:

What is your Job title and how long have you worked for Royal Caribbean?

I am a 'Featured Singer' and this is my very first Royal contract.

What Character are you in the Grease Production?

I play the Role of 'Roger'.

How did it feel to be selected to be a cast member?

It was an amazing feeling. After a few rounds of auditions and a number of weeks waiting to hear something, there is really no way to describe the feeling of landing a long contract doing something you love,  day in and day out.

How long were you rehearsing for?

We rehearsed in Miami for three weeks, blocking all of the scenes and choreography before starting rehearsals on the ship for another four weeks. Whilst on the ship, we started to add all the other elements into the show, like lighting, sound, props, costume, set…

What's it like performing on a ship?

I've actually been performing on ships for the past year as a Guest Entertainer with a Group Called 'The Other Guys' – the UK’s number one tribute to Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, so I knew what to expect. The response we get from the audiences as performers amazes me.

How would you describe Grease to someone who has never seen it before?

It’s a fun show where you'll want to laugh and you'll want to cry, but you'll do it all whilst singing and dancing!

What do you love about this show?

It's the type of show where everybody is smiling from the minute the overture starts; the cast, crew and audience. Everybody knows the music, everybody knows the classic love story and everybody loves the show. What’s not to love about it?!

If you could play another character for a show which character would it be, and why?

If I could play another character for a show, I would play the role of Teen Angel. Teen Angel appears only very briefly in the show – but what an entrance to make! He sings the song 'Beauty School Dropout', which apart from being one of my personal favourites, is also a spectacle to watch; grand costumes, elegant dance moves and incredible vocals. Ironically, I understudy this part, so there may still be a chance I’ll get to go and perform it!

What is your favourite song and why?

My Favourite song is 'There are Worse Things I Could Do'. The song’s performed by the character of Rizzo toward the end of the show and it’s pretty heart-wrenching. The song tugs on everyone’s heart strings – quite the show-stealing moment – and is truly a stand out section of the show.

Which Guests will love the show?

Grease is an iconic Musical with something for absolutely everyone. I have no doubt guests old and young will love it.

How do you spend your days off whilst at sea?

I like to keep busy training at the gym to keep myself fit. I also recently set up my own entertainment company, ‘Allsorts Entertainment’, so some of my days are spent working and keeping on top of things, which can sometimes prove difficult – especially from the middle of the ocean!

What destination are you most looking forward to seeing whilst on board?

Due to the fact I've already visited most of the Mediterranean ports whilst on my travels, I’m looking forward to going to the Caribbean and seeing what that side of the world has to offer.

What's your favourite part of the show?

Without giving too much away; the T-Birds entrance at the beginning of the show and the opening number set the show up in the most incredible way!

What’s it like backstage?

It’s pretty manic. Our version of Grease is a unique version with no interval. As soon as the show starts it’s all systems go! With so many quick changes and so many pieces on set to bring on and off, I couldn’t imagine it any other way.

What did you want to be when you were little?

I grew up listening to the likes of Frank Sinatra, The Drifters and The Four Seasons because of my dad’s incredible taste in music, so from a young age I wanted nothing more than to be a world famous singer. I then got introduced to musicals – THAT’S where I realized that I could actually do this for a living! I’m still working on the ‘world famous’ part, though!
