Art Onboard

Whilst exploring our ships on your next Royal Caribbean holiday, you’ll be WOW-ed by the works of art on display. We’re proud to boast the largest collection of art at sea, so wherever you are onboard, you’re never far from a great work of art.

For over 20 years, our onboard art collections have been curated by International Corporate Art (ICArt), and with their help we’ve ensured that our art programs reach their maximum potential, enhancing our guests’ onboard experience and adding an extra WOW factor to their cruise holidays.

Anthem of the Seas has its very own art gallery for you to explore. Anthem of the Seas has its very own art gallery for you to explore.

What Makes Life Worth Living?

Onboard Quantum class ships, our exhibition ‘What Makes Life Worth Living?’ presents guests with a multi-faceted collection, having first graced our decks in November 2014. Made up of the latest cutting-edge installations, as well as beautiful paintings and inspiring sculptures, this collection of works transformed our ships, and added floating art galleries to our many achievements.
One work that caught the eye of many Royal Caribbean guests was Crossing, a selection of butterflies made from aluminium, acrylic, stainless steel and enamel, which are scattered along the aft lift lobby wall. Many of you will have noticed From Afar, a large stainless steel pink polar bear! Seasoned cruisers, however, will know her by the name of Felicia. This wonderful installation sits on the upper deck, just outside of our SeaPlex on Quantum of the Seas.

Similarly, onboard Anthem of the Seas you’ll find Jean-Francois Fourtou’s fun giraffe sculpture, GiGi! Wearing a bright yellow swimsuit and standing at 862.5cm high, she can also be found on the upper deck by the SeaPlex. If you haven’t seen these pieces yet, keep an eye out the next time you’re onboard.
Dining out is a memorable experience onboard our ships, and we’ve tried to make our restaurants as enjoyable as possible. We love the photography that’s featured in our American Icon Grill. You’ll be transported to the US not only through great food, but through photographs of the stunning Seattle cityscape, and iconic American cars. Other works of art in the series include the Andy Warhol Self Portrait Series found by the aft stairs, and nearby you’ll see a beautiful oil on canvas painting, titled Diver.

The largest private art collection at sea

Our private art collection is vast. Anthem of the Seas has its very own Picasso, and our wider collection ranges from South American pop art to the far edges of Asia, reflecting our love of cultures from all across the world. One particular artist who has become popular onboard our ships is Romero Britto.
A world-renowned Brazilian artist, Romero Britto creates bright, cheerful pieces that we think tie in perfectly with the atmosphere onboard Royal Caribbean ships, and onboard Allure of the Seas you can visit the Britto art gallery, displaying a great range of his works. If you’re inspired by his pieces, why not take a work of art home as a souvenir? Britto’s colourful pop art works can be seen within the ship’s Central Park, too, and his sculptures adorn our outdoor pool, so you can enjoy them throughout your cruise holiday. Explore other great works of art in the gallery on Anthem of the Seas, which is filled with stunning oil paintings and sculptures.

Allure of the Seas has some other great works of art, like Jacob Hashimoto’s Gateway to the Hidden Part of the Sky. To create this piece the artist used steel rods and over 2,000 hand-made silk screened discs, making a work of art full of movement and colour. We love artist Carlos Bretancourt, especially his art onboard Oasis of the Seas, A Flock of Seagulls. This aluminium and stainless steel sculpture stands at 100ft high! The next time you’re onboard a Royal Caribbean cruise, try playing a game with the family to see who can spot the most works of art. With 4652 onboard our ships, you’d better get started!
