Rock Climbing, Thai Boxing and Unicorns: The perfect holiday for a new generation of travellers

By JoTuesday 08th May 2018

Meet our Little Extraordinaires | Royal Caribbean UK

What better a way for kids to explore the big wide world, than aboard one of the most fun-filled ships to have ever graced its seas? With decks packed full of adventurous activities, from zip lines to water slides, there’s never a dull moment onboard a Royal Caribbean cruise!

As part of our mission to future proof our up-and-coming ships, we’ve created our first ever panel of child experts. Called the ‘Little Extraordinaires’, they are helping to guide and inspire the designs for the cruise ships of the future!

The perfect holiday for your kids

It’s important to us that children have just as wild a time as the grown ups, so we always tailor family holidays with awesome onboard activities. In fact, recent research we conducted found that nearly 70 percent of parents will consult their children before booking a holiday, proving that more and more holidays are booked with the kids in mind.

We also discovered that parents believe adventurous experiences and thrilling waterslides are the go-to activities for children on holiday. So, we’ve teamed up with our Little Extraordinaires to test this belief and discover exactly how kids really want to holiday.

After speaking to the Little Extraordinaries, we’ve discovered the experiences at the top of their wish-lists include: Thai boxing, rock climbing, remote-controlled waterslides, exploring new cultures, unicorns and ice cream, just to name a few! We’re already putting this research to good use, ensuring kids now and in the future have the best holiday imaginable onboard a Royal Caribbean cruise.

The ultimate family experience

To really test our Little Extraordinaries, we’ve set them the task of ocean-testing the new look Independence of the Seas after its multi-million-pound makeover. This May, we’ll be giving the Little Extraordinaries free reign of all the new epic activities onboard, to make sure our cruises deliver the ultimate family holiday experience.

To make sure both parents and children have adventures to remember, we’ve dialled up onboard facilities to the max. Our one-of-a-kind bungee trampoline experience, Sky Pad, transports guests to another dimension of gravity defying fun, all thanks to a virtual reality headset.

More of a water baby than an adrenaline junkie? Then you’ll love exploring the gallons of extra splash we’ve added to our interactive waterpark Splashaway Bay. Plus, we’ve added even more extraordinary to our wet’n’wild waterslides Perfect Storm!

To ensure our experiences were tailored to Gen Z - kids aged between 2 and 19 - we consulted Dr Paul Redmond, a generational expert. He explained that growing up in a digital age has resulted in this generation expecting innovation embedded in experiences around them. Taking this into account, we’ve made sure that the activities are the perfect blend of technology-based features and traditional action-packed activities.
