Our First Ever Family Cruise!

By Liz FarmerTuesday 25th March 2014

Hi, I'm Liz

I live in Weybridge with my husband, Graham, and our 3 kids, Josie, Sam and the youngest Eddie. I’m no stranger to travel and in the past I’ve journeyed all over the world, including the US and Far East for work. I’ve also been to Australia a handful of times, which is where my twin sister lives.  On top of being a full-time mum, I also help out with Meals on Wheels, running the local Beaver Scout colony, working as the secretary for my son’s football club, as well as the secretary and committee member for the school’s PTA.
When I get some time for myself, I love nothing more than to walk my lovely pet Miniature Schnauzer, Peppa, and enjoying coffee and a chat with friends.

My cruise experience…

The cruise was absolutely amazing, and we had a fantastic time. There were so many destinations and things to do onboard, we were spoilt for choice - I don’t think we even scratched the surface! The shore excursions were amazing too; the dolphins and the zip wire were great fun.

My favourite destination was…

My favourite destination was Labadee, it was what a Caribbean island is meant to be, beautiful and stunning. There were lots to do, and when we all went up the zip wire the views from above were amazing.

Our favourite family activity was…

The main activity was the rock climbing, we did it in two groups, and it was a real race to ring the bell at the top. It was great fun, and the first to get to the top and ring the bell was Sam, not Eddie!

Our favourite restaurants

The main dining room is inclusive, and it was out of this world! Such a lovely restaurant.
On the last night we went to Chops Grille (we are a family of meat eaters) and the food and service was stunning - you couldn’t beat the service in any of the restaurants. I really enjoyed Izumi, the sushi restaurant, but watching the kids try it was funniest thing!

My advice to first time cruisers

If someone asked me now, I would definitely recommend going on a cruise -you’ll really enjoy it. There’s so much to do, you need at least two weeks just to see the shows and activities, so it’s perfect for families.
This experience has made us realised we really want to do another cruise, the children enjoyed it so much, and they’re all desperate to do another! Beforehand I had some preconceptions, but those were turned on their head. When I first entered the competition it was basically just click and forget, but then we won! Graham wasn’t sure about it, and we all thought there would be small cabins, or we’d start to feel sea sick. But, when we got onboard we didn’t feel the ship moving at all, it was so smooth and amazing, and the cabin was more than big enough for all of us – there were even more hangers than I had clothes! On the last day, Graham said that he’s happy because the whole family had a great time.

Our holiday song was…

If I had to sum up my holiday with one special song, I’d have to go for the really summery Abba song, Summer Night’s City. It was great to listen to in the warm, balmy evenings, and with the lights of the ship it just made me feel very summery and happy.

My Cruise in 3 words…

…Exhilarating, relaxing and eye-opening.
