Winter Sun & Alternative Christmas Destinations

By HarryTuesday 26th November 2013

winter sun

Have you always wanted to swap the winter snow for winter sun, or the miserable drizzly rain for a crystal clear sea? Spending Christmas on a cruise is the perfect way to celebrate the festive season with your family, removing any added worry of overcooking the turkey! Here are five of our favourite Christmas destinations we are sure you’ll love.

A Caribbean Christmas

While it’s popular summer destination, our Caribbean cruises also sail during the festive holidays. Our South Caribbean cruise travels from San Juan to Curaçao; making stops at a number of picturesque islands and cities during its journey. Between celebrating Christmas and sunbathing along the beaches, you can take a panoramic tour around the island of Curacao, admiring the colourful Dutch architecture of Willemstad’s harbour. Or, take a look around the butterfly farm in Charlotte Amelie, St Thomas; a world of fluttering colourful wings.
Our East Caribbean cruise explores another side to the Caribbean, taking you to St Thomas, St Maarten and our own private Haitian island Labadee. If your kids are looking for a chance to let out some energy, take them to the Arawak Aqua Park in Labadee, a supersized inflatable water park in the sea. If you’re in the mood for exploring then take a tour of San Juan, perfect for finding those extra Christmas presents you wanted to buy.

South East Asia

With Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore on your Christmas cruise itinerary, it’ll be easy to avoid the winter blues. South East Asia’s fantastic culture, food and glistening decorations are what make this part of the world an exciting place to visit during the festive season. Spend your Christmas exploring the markets of Singapore, riding elephants in Thailand or eating your weight in Malaysian cuisine.

Mike Vondran at Praia Juaquina, Florianopolis, Brazil, December 20 2008.
The beautiful South American beaches and captivating rainforests are the first of many reasons why so many enjoy travelling to Brazil. The people of Brazil love to celebrate Christmas with parties, dancing, great food and religious ceremonies, making it a perfect place for you and your family to enjoy the festive season. Leading up to Christmas, many Brazilians also create wonderful nativity scenes called Presépios, which you’ll see displayed across the country.

A wonderful country of history and beauty; surrounded by picturesque beaches and glimmering blue waters. Mexico is a country where the people celebrate Christmas from as early as the beginning of December all the way through to January 6th. It’s a month of festive celebrations your family will love being a part of. Parties, piñatas, kids dressing up, nativity scenes, Christmas trees and even Poinsettias all play a big part in Mexico’s celebrations.

South Pacific

Just as winter sets in at home, Australia welcomes in summer. You’ll be able to celebrate Christmas with barbeques by the beach instead of embarrassing festive jumpers and turkey. Our South Pacific Christmas cruise also journeys to the islands of New Caledonia and Vanautu, where you can enjoy the festive communal parties of these secluded islands.

A Royal Christmas Onboard

There will plenty for you and your family to do during your Royal Caribbean Christmas. Festive decorations are laid across the decks, a seasonal parade is held and Christmas music is played throughout. There are also great activities for your kids to take part in, such as biscuit decorating and arts and crafts.

So long, winter!
