Water Sports in the Sea

By HarryWednesday 02nd April 2014

Water sports are a great way to keep your kids both entertained and cool, during their cruise holiday to some of the sunniest destinations around the world. Onboard, you and your kids can splash about in the H20 Zone, swim and dive into our many pools and even catch some waves on our onboard surf simulator, FlowRider. On shore, you’ll have the choice of a whole range of beautiful beaches to surf on, glide on and even kayak on. Here are our top 3 picks for water sports fun in the sea.

Having fun at Labadee, Haiti

Royal Caribbean’s very own private resort of Labadee, in Haiti, is a haven for adults and kids who love having fun in the sea. Spend the morning kayak racing with your family, followed by an afternoon of bouncing, climbing and diving off the Arawak Aqua Park, which floats in the middle of the warm, azure Caribbean Sea. For all you daredevils, take a ride on a speeding banana boat, and cling on as you rush through the waves and sprays of water!

If you’re looking to unwind, then take advantage of the floating beach mats and relax over the calm rocking of the waves.

Surf and paddle in Brisbane, Australia

Everyone knows that Australia has some of the most amazing beaches in the world, with even better surf breaks to ride. Other than riding the rolling waves that crash onto the shores of Brisbane, you can learn how to stand-up paddle instead. It’s much easier than traditional surfing, but still gives you the chance to sail along the water, spotting the exotic sea life below.

If during your day on shore the winds are strong, take advantage of the weather and learn how to wind surf. One of the best collections of beaches for wind surfing in Queensland is Bribie Island. There are many local clubs around that area that offer lessons for both beginners and pros, so you’ll have no reason to miss out!

Discover the underwater beauty of Santorini, Greece

Discover the underwater beauty of Santorini, Greece
As well as the stunning white and blue architecture that resides on the mountainous landscape of Santorini, this volcanic island is also home to many beautiful beaches and reefs for snorkelers to enjoy. Caldera beach is a great location for both divers and snorkelers because of its fascinating sea life and underwater wreckages, which rest on the seabed.  As you and your kids strap on your goggles and float along the water’s surface you’ll come face to face with a variety of life forms, including black gobies, dragon fish and bright orange star fish!
After exploring what’s under water, spend some time relaxing under a parasol and enjoy the beautiful Greek climate, sipping on ice cold drinks and indulging in delicious local snacks from the sea-side cafes and bars.
