Romantic Getaways

By HarryWednesday 11th February 2015

In the mood for love this Valentine’s day? From the pubs of Bruges to the charming vineyards of Paris, romance can be found at every corner of Europe. To help you get inspired for your next loved up trip, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite destinations that are bound to get sparks flying. So, grab your one and only, and start planning your romantic getaway today.

8860876135_0d6367801e_z There’s so much more to the city of love than just the Eiffel Tower and the Love Lock bridge of Pont de l’Archeveche – although they’re nothing short of captivating. For a sensual dance between you and your loved one, head over to the edge of the River Seine, on Quai Saint-Bernard between Pont Sully and Pont d’Austerlitz, where an elderly man plays out Latin music so that lovers from around the world can tango to the beat. 8189211422_3044dbf129_z Another great part of Paris that is often overlooked is the city’s vineyards, where rows and rows of grape vines take up the gardens of the neighbouring hills. For great views of the Sacré Coeur and a chance to explore the hill of Montmartre, spend a morning wandering around the Clos Montmartre Vineyard. Away from the bustle of the main city, you can sample the great wines produced there, from gamay to pinot noir. For a romantic lunch out, drive to the outskirts of the city, to the beautiful Le Pré Catelan, a wonderful restaurant that’s surrounded by elegant shrubberies and bright flowers. Dine on caviar, succulent beef, and decadent chocolate fondant desserts that’ll leave you both feeling indulged.

It's a brand new monument in Paris and one of my favourite photo spots too!" One of our Instagrammers, Seb Gordon, said that his favourite place to explore during his trips to Paris is the Fondation Louis Vuitton, a place dedicated to art, which was designed by the architect Frank Gehry.

2856664866_b27d50ab26_z The most romantic way to enjoy a trip to Bruges, is simply by walking around the city, hand-in-hand, taking in the views of the beautiful architecture. Saunter past the red brick houses that line the canals, as well as the medieval buildings that meet the cobbled paths, and flower gardens that light up the city. An architectural highlight is the Basilica of the Holy Blood, an enchanting example of gothic design. Wander around to take in the gold plated statues and colourful murals, all of which are a complete contrast to the gun-grey exterior. 5620622377_41a5783f9d_z After your tour of Bruges, be sure to enjoy a drink at the city’s oldest pub, Café Vlissinghe. Sip on Belgian beer, or warm the cockles of your heart with a delicious mug of glühwein, as you snuggle up together in this cosy little local. 4554822506_6cd1c157b0_z Finish your time in this charming city with a meal at the Park Restaurant. With a brilliant atmosphere and cosy settings, it’s not surprising that many choose this place as the setting for a romantic proposal. Dig into a range of Belgian and French cuisine, from butter baked dover sole, to perfectly cooked Belgian beef fillet, and a creamy Crème Brûlée for dessert.

It’s also a nice area for jogging, picnicking, and it’s near the ‘Kruispoort’ gate" Top Instagram photographer, Janske, provided a top tip to all of you visiting Bruges. Janske says that this photo is of “one of my favourite spots in Bruges because you can walk along the canal and see all the windmills.” And, by looking at this gorgeous photograph Janske took, we couldn’t agree more.
