Eating Out with Kids in Marseille

By HarryFriday 11th July 2014

Marseille is a beautiful city located in the south of France, and boasts a divine Mediterranean climate, stunning views and mouth-watering cuisine. Sampling the exquisite Provençal cuisine throughout a trip to Marseille is a must, even with kids! From street markets to authentic French restaurants, take a look at our top places to eat out during your time in Marseille.

Capucins Market

Image and video hosting by TinyPic After a fun ride on the Petit Train, a miniature train that journeys throughout Marseille, be sure to pay a visit to Capucins Market, which is located just off the main road of La Canebiére. It’s a great pit-stop for a mid-morning snack, and as you stroll hand in hand with your kids past the various stalls you’ll each be able to tuck into juicy, fresh peaches and apricots, tangy olives, and sample locally produced cheeses and vegetables. It’s also the perfect opportunity for your kids to explore different flavours and textures too!

WAAW in Cours Julien

WAAW is a cultural centre and bistro located in Cours Julien, a trendy neighbour full of artists, musicians and graffiti, as well as quaint cafes, and popular bars. Kitted out with super-cool interiors, this wonderful bistro is not just a pretty face, it sells delicious lunches, from a full range of classic French baguettes for €8 to tender beef steaks for €12.

Calissons du Roy Rene

Made from blended almond paste, candied melons and oranges and sugar syrup, these almond shaped goodies are placed on top of a thin wafer and topped with white royal icing. To catch up for lost time take your family to Calissons du Roy Rene, a small shop and museum that provides visitors with plenty of these tasty treats, and demonstrations of how they are made – the perfect afternoon activity.

La Crêpe au Carré

Image and video hosting by TinyPic Love pancakes? Look no further than Marseille’s La Crêpe au Carré, an amazing pancake restaurant with a historic interior - it was built on a former shipping channel. If you and your kids are in the mood for something savoury then give their buckwheat pancakes a try, where you’ll get to choose from a range of delicious toppings, including the ‘Raclette’ pancake, which comes with layers of potatoes, raclette cheese and ham. If your kids fancy something sweet then they’ll be spoilt for choice; we recommend the mouth-watering, banoffee delight of banana, caramel, salted butter and whipped cream. If you want something a little more grown up, try the pancake that’s smothered in chestnut cream, melted chocolate, nuts, toasted almonds, whipped cream and a drizzle of Grand Marnier.

Feeling hot?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic With its warm Mediterranean climate, Marseille can get pretty hot, so make sure you and your kids take the time to chill out with a delicious ice cream from Glacier Vanille Noire. This is not like any other ice cream shop, these artisan glaciers process all of the ice cream in the traditional way, ensuring lots of flavour and a lot less sugar with every bite – win, win!

Feeling hungry?

If you and your kids are feeling peckish just thinking about all of this delicious food, then take a look at our amazing Mediterranean cruises to find out all about our latest deals and itineraries.
