A break from tradition: Christmas in Dubai

Freezing weather, dry turkey and awful Secret Santa gifts – these are just a few elements that are part and parcel of Christmastime. There’s also the endless hours spent in the kitchen and the squabbling kids. Wouldn’t it be great to get away from it all, to somewhere sunny and warm? Dubai is the perfect destination for a Christmas getaway, read on to find out why.

The weather

Although December is one of Dubai’s cooler months, the temperatures still range between a sizzling 20-26°C, so you won’t need to fear that winter chill. Say goodbye to cheesy Christmas jumpers and woollen socks, say hello to sunglasses and sandals, as you bask in the amazing sun. The beautiful weather will transform your Christmas into a whole new experience. The food

We’ve all been there: climbing out of bed at 6am on Christmas morning to begin preparations for the Christmas lunch at 3pm. It’s far from fun. Luckily for visitors to Dubai, the city is jam-packed with delicious restaurants, cafes and bars, so you can spend Christmas day relaxing. Take your pick from the many fine dining restaurants (think Michelin stars) or tuck into some traditional Emirati cuisine, there are plenty of places to choose from.

The shopping

The shopping in Dubai is undoubtedly some of the best in the world; you couldn’t ask for a better destination to pick up Christmas gifts for loved ones back at home. The Dubai Mall is the largest shopping mall in the world, housing an unbelievable number of shops, an aquarium, an ice rink and more. This epic mall really has to be seen to be believed. The beaches

With all the beautiful weather, a visit to the beach is a necessary part of any Christmas getaway to Dubai. Make your way to one of the beaches that surround the city, such as the Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Club or the Habtoor Grand Beach Resort & Spa, and grab a spot on the sandy shores. Keep in mind that most of the beaches are owned by resorts, so there might be a fee and you may need to book in advance.

The decorations

Dubai is a place that’s known for its supersize buildings and breath-taking monuments; it’s a place that doesn’t do things by halves and that includes Christmas decorations. Prepare to be wowed by the incredible decorations that can be seen in the shopping malls and on the streets, they’re sure to delight and amaze!
