Best Places to Surf

By HarryTuesday 18th March 2014

Nothing compares to the mist of the sea’s crashing waves spraying onto your face, and the adrenaline you feel as you surf up and over the water. Of course, our number one place in the world for surfing is on our Flowrider, located on the sports deck onboard, where you can perfect your balance as you ride the rush of water. To get you ready for your surfing cruise holiday we’ve put together our top list of surfing destinations around the world.

Superbank, Australia

Image and video hosting by TinyPic Only a short drive from your Brisbane port of call is the surfer’s paradise Superbank, on Australia’s stunning Gold Coast. The gigantic waves tumbling over the sea are sure to catch your eye if you’re a fan of surfing. Some of the waves you’ll ride will have so much power, that they’ll carry you across huge stretches of water, right up to the shore. If your kids can’t wait to dive in, then grab a couple of body boards and paddle and glide along the smaller waves. Body boards are much easier to ride, and are perfect for all surfing beginners. After a day of splashing around in the sea, you’ll have the chance to explore the rest of the Gold Coast. A great place to spend some quality time with your family is Tamborine Mountain, a lovely town with restaurants, wineries and quaint cottages with shops and pretty gardens.

Manu Bay, New Zealand

Image and video hosting by TinyPic After featuring in the 1966 film ‘Endless Summer’, Manu Bay in New Zealand became a favourite surfing destination, with many surfers gathering there from around the world. And it’s not hard to see why, when faced with the emerald coastal cliffs and deep blue ocean surrounding the shore. If you’re a beginner, or just want to improve your surfing skills, then head to Raglan Surfing school for engaging 3 hour sessions that will take you through all aspects of learning to surf, and how to ride some of the best surf breaks. If you just want to watch then we recommend attending one of Point Board Rider’s monthly competitions, which is a great chance for you and your family watch some pros in action!

The Bubble, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic With an uncrowded beach, powerful waves, and impressive surf curls, The Bubble in Fuerteventura makes for a great surfing destination, and is perfect for all of you who wish to body board and windsurf, too. Once you’ve spent some time enjoying the sun and tumbling waves, take your kids along to the Oasis Park Zoo, a fantastic chance for your kids to admire 3,000 animals, including interacting with parrots, reptiles and sea lions in the specially prepared shows. There’s also a beautiful botanical garden within the zoo, filled with tropical plants for you to explore.

Other top surfing locations to look out for

Image and video hosting by TinyPic There are many more amazing destinations that are equally as great for catching some waves, so wherever you are in the world, you’re sure to find a surfing paradise for you. A couple of our other favourites are the Surin Beach in Phuket, Thailand and Tofino on Vancouver Island in Canada. On Surin Beach you’ll be able to enjoy surfing over the gorgeous turquoise waters and sipping cocktails in the humble bars of Phuket’s Old Town. If you’re on a Canada cruise to Vancouver, in Tofino you’ll have the chance to learn from certified surfing instructors! When you’re all surfed out, take part in some whale watching and the odd trail along the rugged coast line – amazing!
