The Best of Bali

By HarryMonday 01st August 2016

The Pura Luhur Uluwatu clifftop temple. The Pura Luhur Uluwatu clifftop temple.

Bali is nicknamed the “Island of Gods” because of its vivid Hindu culture, but any visitor to this heavenly island will tell you this nickname is fitting in more ways than one. Think white-sand beaches, luscious jungle, ancient temples, delectable food, a vibrant culture and some of the most welcoming people in the world.

Whether you want adventure, relaxation, family-fun or something else entirely, you’ll find it all in Bali. In this post, we’re taking a look at a few of the top things you can do on this beautiful island when you cruise there with Royal Caribbean. This is the best of Bali.

Uluwatu Temple Tour Shore Excursion

Don’t miss the amazing statues at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park. Don’t miss the amazing statues at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park.
No visit to Bali would be complete without seeing at least one of the many temples which are dotted around the island. On this four-hour shore excursion, our guide will take you to Pura Luhur Uluwatu, a spectacular temple which is perched on the edge of a sheer cliff, 825 feet above the Indian Ocean. You’ll then head to the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park to see the iconic statues which are housed there. The next stop is Jimbaran, a small fishing village, where you can pick up handicrafts. It’s a really great day out for the whole family.

Kuta Beach

The beautiful Kuta Beach. The beautiful Kuta Beach.
If you love a day at the beach, Kuta is the place for you. This seaside resort is a hit with tourists and locals alike, thanks to its sandy beaches, blue waters and surf-worthy waves. You can grab a spot on the sand or, if you like a bit of shade, grab one of the rentable sun loungers. Take a dip in the beautiful blue ocean, relax on the beach or join a lesson held by one of the many surf schools. When your tummy rumbles, there are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. Nasi Bali (rice with a selection of meat, seafood and vegetable dishes) is one of our favourites.

Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary

Look out for the macaque monkeys. Look out for the macaque monkeys.
As you may already know, Bali is covered in dense jungle which is home to all kinds of wildlife, including monkeys. Just over an hour’s drive north from Benoa’s port, where you’ll dock, is the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. Located in the Mandala Wisata Wanara Wana jungle, the sanctuary houses not one, not two, but three incredible temples, and lots of macaque monkeys. Explore the beautiful temples and look out for the macaques, just follow the guidelines as these monkeys are notoriously cheeky.

Ayung White Water Rafting Shore Excursion

Adventure down the Ayung River. Adventure down the Ayung River.
Calling all adventure-seekers, this is the shore excursion for you! Your day begins with a drive to the Ayung River, Bali’s longest river, where your white water rafting experience takes place. Not for the faint-hearted, this excursion will get your heart pumping, as you raft your way past beautiful dense rainforest, tall cliffs and spectacular waterfalls. Along the way, during the calmer stretches, our guides will tell you all about the river’s unique ecosystem. You’ll finish up with a relaxed lunch, before heading back to the ship.
