An Asian Adventure

By HarryTuesday 21st June 2016

The magnificent Thean Hou Temple. The magnificent Thean Hou Temple.

If you’ve never been to Asia before, it’s definitely about time you went. This exotic region has some of the world’s best destinations, from bustling Seoul to idyllic Nha Trang, just waiting to be explored. In this blog post, we’re taking a look at a few of our favourite Asian destinations. So what are you waiting for? Join us for an unforgettable Asian adventure.

Kuala Lumpur

When in Kuala Lumpur, try curry laksa. When in Kuala Lumpur, try curry laksa. First on our list is Kuala Lumpur, the busy capital city of Malaysia. Like many southeast Asian cities, Kuala Lumpur combines the old with the new, resulting in a vibrant mix that is sure to capture your heart.

Don’t miss… Thean Hou Temple

You’ll find temples and religious monuments throughout this part of Asia, many of which are well worth a visit. Thean Hou Temple is a magnificent six-tier Chinese temple, adorned with dragons and statues, which overlooks the city.

Don’t miss… Merdenka Square

This central city square is perfect for history lovers. Surrounded by important historical buildings, such as the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery and St. Mary's Anglican Cathedral, the square is great if you want to learn more about KL. Free heritage tours leave daily from the City Gallery.

We love… Curry Laksa

Malaysian food is delicious, there’s no doubt about it. Curry laksa is made with noodles, fish balls, tofu, chicken, prawns and beansprouts, cooked in a complex chilli coconut sauce. Topped with crispy shallots and served with a wedge of lime, curry laksa will take your taste buds to flavour town.

Nha Trang

Nha Trang Beach, as seen from above. Nha Trang Beach, as seen from above. Located on Vietnam’s southern coast, Nha Trang is a busy beach town, with a crescent-shaped bay, surrounded by sweeping green hills. Equally suited to party-goers and families, there’s something for everyone in Nha Trang.

Don’t miss... Po Nagar Cham Towers

Found just 2km north of Nha Trang, the Po Nagar Cham Towers are a must-see for anyone visiting the area. They feature intricate carvings, statues and beautiful chambers, and the north tower (Thap Chinh) measures an incredible 28 metres high.

Don’t miss… Nha Trang Beach

A visit to Nha Trang just wouldn’t be complete without a visit to its lovely beach. Six kilometres of golden sand stretch around the bay, meeting with turquoise waters, while pretty islands can be seen in the distance.

We love… The Buddha at Long Sơn Pagoda

While the Po Nagar Cham Temples are undeniably impressive, the Buddha at Long Sơn Pagoda is our favourite sight in Nha Trang. This 14-metre tall white Buddha sits atop a lotus blossom, and is visible from all over the town. Climb the 152 steps to see it up close.

Seoul

Seoul is an unmissable destination. Seoul is an unmissable destination. Some may say that this modern city is the life and Seoul (!) of the party… and they wouldn’t be wrong! Sleek buildings sit alongside ancient palaces, while a thriving design, fashion and art scene attracts younger visitors from all over the world.

Don’t miss… Changdeokgung Palace

Built in 1405, Changdeokgung Palace is, arguably, Seoul’s most beautiful palace. In order to take a look around this World Heritage-listed palace, complete with gardens and woodland, join one of the daily tours.

Don’t miss… Bukhansan National Park

Bukhansan National Park is just north of the city and is popular with locals and visitors alike. Consisting of beautiful mountains, flowing streams, fortresses and temples, the park is great for walking and sightseeing.

We love… Yangnyeom chicken

Yangnyeom chicken (fried chicken) is a classic Korean dish, which is best enjoyed with an ice-cold beer or a glass of soju (a type of rice wine). The chicken is often fried twice and coated with a sweet and sticky or spicy sauce.
