A Warm December

By HarryWednesday 21st December 2016

A relaxing cruise in the sun is the perfect way for you to escape the winter blues. The short days and frosty nights during the UK wintertime can really get you down, so if you’re thinking of getting some winter sun, then we’d suggest looking into some of the warmest destinations that the Caribbean has to offer in December. We’ve even compared the temperatures to those of the main cities in the UK - just for you.

George Town, Grand Cayman

 Average December Temperature: 26°C

Average December Temperature in London: 7°C

Grand Cayman’s famous Seven Mile Beach offers the blissful views and crystal-clear waters you’d expect from the Caribbean. Enjoy a cocktail in a coconut at Tiki Beach whilst lounging around and dipping your toes into the warm, powdery white sand, or swim alongside stingrays and dolphins whilst snorkelling in the Barrier Reef. Spot shoals of fish from a glass-bottomed boat or take your holiday way above sea level by parasailing across the water – which certainly beats running for the bus in the rain, right?

Falmouth, Jamaica

Average December Temperature: 27°C

Average December Temperature in Leeds: 3°C

Have you ever pictured yourself racing around Jamaica in a dune buggy? How about cooking authentic Jamaican cuisine in an 18th century great house veranda? The coolest it gets in Falmouth is a not-so-cool 26°C, so you won’t be able to deny yourself a kayaking trip down the rushing waters of the Martha Brae River. The possibilities are endless on the North Coast of Jamaica. Explore an underground complex of passageways at the Green Grotto Caves before taking a dip at the astounding Dunn’s River Falls; one of Jamaica’s national treasures. Treat the family whilst making everybody at home jealous by making memories in the sun with your nearest and dearest.

Oranjestad, Aruba

Average December Temperature: 27°C

Average December Temperature in Birmingham: 5°C

Whether it’s exploring the Oranjestad coastline via water jetpack, horseback riding through Arakok, Aruba’s National Park, or snorkelling through sapphire-blue waters, you won’t be able to escape the heat when you visit Aruba. With an average rainfall of less than 500mm a year (less than one-third of that here in the U.K.), you can be safe in the knowledge that you’re swapping your brolly for a beach towel. If you’re feeling like a serious surge of adrenaline, take an off-road safari along the rugged Andiguri Trail, or discover the island’s heritage and stunning scenery, either by boat or open-air bus.

Willemstad, Curaçao

Average December Temperature: 28°C

Average December Temperature in Glasgow: 4°C

Willemstad, in Curaçao, has a lot to offer families, couples and solo travellers alike. From encounters with dolphins and animal shows to the Curaçao Sea Aquarium; you can enjoy temperatures nearing 30°C whilst those at home are turning the heating on in their slippers! Kenepa Beach is one of the most popular destinations for visitors, offering spectacular views of the ocean, so it’s understandable that it can get fairly busy (we recommend getting there early to secure a good spot). If you’re more of a sight-seer, you can take a guided tour around Hato Caves and admire the 1,500-year-old cave drawings (also known as petroglyphs).

A winter break in the sun will do you wonders. Excursions vary from ship to ship, but you can choose where to visit with your eyes closed and still be safe in the knowledge that it’s warmer than the climes back at home. Start planning your Caribbean adventure today.
