5 Healthy Dishes from Around the World

Are you ready to dust off the cobwebs of Christmas and kick start your New Year the healthy way? If you’re anything like me you’ll be craving the healthy recipes that appear around this time of the year. Royal Caribbean sail to lots of fascinating and beautiful destinations, so it would be a shame to not include some of the tasty recipes we’ve encountered along the way. Here are 5 healthy dishes from around the world that will prepare you for the brand new year ahead.


Jamaican grilled fish

Surrounded by beautiful clear waters and a golden cost, the Caribbean is a great place to taste fish dishes. Grilled fish is one of the healthiest meals you can enjoy, and Caribbean seasoning makes it one of the most delicious. Layer on a seasoning of your choice (I prefer Jerk) over a fresh red snapper and place thinly sliced pieces of lime over the top and grill until golden. A low fat dish with so much flavour and it’s pretty easy to make too!

Grilled vegetable or shrimp Fajitas

If you’re a fan of the Caribbean why not try some traditional Mexican cuisine – it’s often healthy, tasty food that’s good for your waistline. Full with delicious flavours and great ingredients, Mexican food can be both comforting and low calorie at the same time. Grilled vegetable or shrimp fajitas are great cooked with a coating of chilli and spices, and go perfectly with low calorie dips of salsa and guacamole – delish!


Whether you love seasoned sushi rolls, rice balls or fresh sashimi served on a bed of ice – Japanese sushi is a great food for when you’re looking for a healthy alternative to the usual take-away. Dip your dish of choice in soya sauce, or enjoy it with a slice of pickled ginger and a coating of sesame seeds – it all tastes great. Sushi rolls and sashimi are very easy to make (and fun), and your kids are sure to love eating it as much as they did making it.

Vietnamese prawn and noodle salad

Not only is Vietnam a beautifully enchanting country, it’s also home to some of the best tasting food in the world. Fresh herbs, spices and sea food are just some of the ingredients which make Vietnamese cuisine so good. One of my favourite dishes is a prawn and noodle salad, which is full of juicy grilled prawns, smothered with fresh chilli, coriander and lime juice on a bed of gluten-free rice noodles. It’s the perfect antidote for all of those Christmas treats you may have indulged in.

Salad Nicoise with seared tuna

The Mediterranean is renowned for is deliciously light and summery dishes. If you often cruise to the Mediterranean to enjoy the warmth and picturesque backdrop of the coast, then you’ll be familiar with the delectable dishes that are available across the towns and cities. An all-time healthy Provencal classic is Salad Nicoise; a tasty but light dish which is great for a lunch in the sun with a glass of wine. For your perfect version slightly sear slices of fresh tuna, and place them on a bed of fresh rocket leaves, artichokes and eggs, coating it all in Nicoise vinaigrette – yummy!
