15 reasons why you shouldn’t go to Ajaccio this summer

By HarryMonday 25th January 2016

Rugged Ajaccio mountains. Rugged Ajaccio mountains.

1. The Mediterranean Sea is the worst.

Perfectly blue and dazzlingly clear – who wants that, right?

2. No one even remotely famous has been born in Corsica…

…except for Napoléon Bonaparte. Just one of Ajaccio’s beaches. Just one of Ajaccio’s beaches.

3. The monuments are unbelievably ugly.

Especially Tour de la Parata.

4. The weather is dreadful, especially in summer.

Who likes sunshine and warmth, anyway? Corsican nougat. Corsican nougat.

5. The Scandola Nature Reserve might be a UN Natural World Heritage site, but we don’t see what all the fuss is about.

It’s definitely not worth visiting.

6. The Parc Naturel Regional de Corse is dull.

There’s only horse-riding, rock climbing, hiking and skiing (in winter). A view out to sea. A view out to sea.

7. There’s not a single delicious thing to eat there.

Local cheeses, tasty cured meats and pastries – disgusting!

8. Corsica has a pitiful 1000km of coastline.

Not nearly enough, in our opinion. Tour de la Parata, a 16th Century Genoese tower. Tour de la Parata, a 16th Century Genoese tower.

9. The villages are far from picturesque.

Nothing to see here!

10. There’s nothing interesting to see at the Palais Fesch-musée des beaux-arts.

Don’t even give it the time of day. Explore the Corsican mountainside. Explore the Corsican mountainside.

11. The beaches are nothing like Blackpool.

Think soft white sands and colourful parasols, definitely not like Blackpool.

12. The water sports are boring.

You definitely won’t have the time of your life. The harbour at Ajaccio. The harbour at Ajaccio.

13. Corsica’s mountains aren’t even worth the trouble.

Trust us.

14. You can’t get a decent plate of seafood anywhere.

Literally.

15. You’ll wish you never set eyes on the harbour.

Fishing boats, palm trees and sandstone building – standard, really.
